On May 31st WUR Field Crops together with Farm of the future and NPPL (National Project for Precision Farming) organized the Future Farming & Food Experience event. A total of 500 visitors including arable farmers, students of agricultural education, companies and policy makers.
The full-day program offered a wide variety of activities. Boerderij van de Toekomst focused on a dialogue with the visitors. While participating in the Game of the Future, many of the challenges facing agriculture were discussed. In four dialogue sessions and speed dates, topics such as alternative income models for the farmer, the future of crop protection, technology/data and circular fertilization were discussed.
Much attention was paid to the demos of high tech solutions especially in the field of weed control, one of the main topics within AGROS. Six robotic applications for weed control were demonstrated in different crops. It proofs that the developments in this field are going fast. Four innovative applications for hoeing of crops were also demonstrated.
A wide range of exhibitors showed and explained new spraying techniques, sensors for crop monitoring, soil sensors, drones, electrification of weeds and haulm killing, etc.
